New Christians, "Like newly born babes, you should long for the pure spiritual milk of the word that by it you may grow up to salvation."  I Peter 2:2

As a baby begins life drinking milk before eating meat, so the new christian learns spiritual basics (milk) before advancing to deeper spiritual concepts which may be more difficult to grasp (meat).
